Nilutpal Borah has completed his M.S. in ophthalmology
from the Assam Medical College, India in 1991.
post-graduation he has received further training in ophthalmology
at Sankara Nethralaya, (Chennai, India), PGI (Chandigarh,
India) and at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.
has started his career in ophthalmology at Venu Eye Institute
in New Delhi, as a Senior Resident. He then worked as a Consultant
in the Medical Retinal Department at Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya,
Guwahati for several years. Presently he is working as Director
of Guwahati Eye Institute and Research Center and Aksi Advanced
Eye Centre, two premier referral eyehospitals located in Guwahati,
India. He is also a visiting lecturer at the Department of
Disability Studies in the Guwahati University, India.
has presented more than 130 papers and posters in various
National and International conferences. Including All India
Ophthalmological Conference, World Ophthalmic Congress, ARVO,
Europian Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, Europian
Retina Congress(EURETINA), International Congress of Ocular
Oncology and SAARC. He has participated in several national
and international conferences as a faculty and published a
number of scientific articles in the national and international
journals on Cataract, Phacoemulsification surgery, Uvea and
has received several awards for research in ophthalmology
including best paper awards in the East-India Zonal Ophthalmological
Conference and All Assam Ophthalmological Conference, India.
In the year 2011, he has received the prestigious J.S.MAHASHABDE
award in community ophthalmology from All India Ophthalmological
Borah is also actively associated with various social works.
And is the Secretary of 'Vision Trust' an NGO working towards
improvement of eye health in tribal dominated areas of the
He is the Editor; Proceedings of All Assam Ophthalmological
Society and a member of the Committee for Courses and
Syllabus(CCS) of the Guwahati university, India.
